The City of Hattiesburg recently made a landmark decision on how it will treat its wastewater going forward. After months of research into options, city leaders have decided on using a “No-Discharge” solution, which will eliminate the discharge of treated wastewater into the Leaf River.
The No-Discharge system will pump treated wastewater to a series of managed vegetative and timber fields, creating a vibrant ecosystem and utilizing soil filtration to provide further treatment.
Previously the city received proposals from interested landholders to provide land for use as a treatment facility for the City’s wastewater. With this decision, the city will begin negotiations with selected parties and authorize engineering task to move forward.
